County Reserve League This was by far the best performance from the side this season to date, going into the game both sides boasted unbeaten records, and after 90 minutes only Boroughs was intact after destroying Blandford with a mixture of fast paced passing and lethal finishing. Played on a glorious day, borough settled the quicker and after reverting back to their familiar 4-4-2 formation, took the game to Blandford who looked stung by the early onslaught. Borough looked dangerous going forward with DE BEN & MADGEWICK, making his full debut, causing problems down both flanks, RUDD & WATSON pulled the strings in midfield, they were ably supported by the willing runners in PORTER & MULVEY, whilst KNIGHT, in the Boro goal ably marshalled his defence that dealt with any Blandford threat. Despite creating a few early chances Borough had to wait until the 17th to take the lead and it came from a WATSON free kick that found its way into the back of the net 1-0 Blandford tried to mount a response but came up against a brick wall and as the half wore on Borough began to enjoy themselves as their passing game frustrated the home side. Further chances went begging from PORTER & MULVEY as the half drew to a close HALF TIME: BLANDFORD UNITED RES 0, POOLE BOROUGH RES 1. Once again Borough were sent out in the second half with instructions to kill the game off and for the second game running, within minutes they did exactly that when following another great through ball from RUDD, MULVEY controlled and lobbed the keeper 2-0. This again knocked the stuffing out of the opposition as Borough then produced a passage of play that saw great passing and movement that completely out played Blandford, as their desperation grew, they began to concede silly free kicks and it was from one of these mid way through the half from MULVEY that saw PORTER rise to head home 3-0. As the game wore on with Borough dominant, MADGEWICK controlled another excellent ball, he drew the keeper and lifted the ball into the net 4-0 this goal was no more than he deserved for an excellent all round performance. To their credit, back came Blandford and they were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute when the Borough defence let their concentration slip whilst not dealing with a ball into the box, from the resulting penalty, the Blandford forward beat KNIGHT 4-1, Any hopes of a late dramatic comeback were firmly squashed minutes later when great interplay between WOLDON & PORTER saw PORTER slot home for his second and Boroughs fifth 5-1. Giles commented that was the best the side had played this season and were well worth the victory, Giles & Sean will not let the side get complacent in the coming matches, this was a great win, however the side face a tricky game with Portland next week and the preparation will be right for the game, however with a quarter of the season gone, there is an air of quiet satisfaction. |
