Borough continued their winning streak after claiming all 3 points with a gritty display against a side more intent on spoiling tactics than trying to play cohesive football.

Played on a superb pitch, a credit to Cranborne, Borough looked to cement their position at the top of the table and after a cagy opening Borough quickly put their hosts on the back foot as they forced a series of corners.

RUDD went close when a short free kick was played to him, however his shot went just wide while Cranborne also went close when a free kick was scrambled clear by FORSTER in the 7th minute. Back came Borough and further chances in the half went begging for MULVEY, PORTER & STONE the latter’s in the 31st minute following a great through ball by BALL.

It looked like Borough would rue the chances they missed as further efforts from PORTER 37 & STONE 39 went begging however Cranborne by this stage were appealing for every challenge to the referee and with an agitated home support!!! voicing their opinions!!! the atmosphere was stepped up. So in the 41st minute it went very quiet when MOLYNEUX picked the ball up and went on a run, he reached the by-line cut back and shot which found its way into the net 1-0

Borough’s tails were up as they searched for a second before the break and it duly came in the 44th minute when a free kick found HEBDON who slotted home from close range 2-0

HALF TIME CRANBORNE RES 0, POOLE BOROUGH RES 2.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first half as Cranborne frustration grew and their challenges got wilder. To Borough’s credit they did not react but instead let their football do the talking as they played some good possession football with both wings being used to great effect. Chances again fell to STONE, PORTER & MULVEY but a combination of good keeping and poor finishing kept the score down.

Cranborne rarely threatened and when they did, like in the 63rd & 67th minutes, KNIGHT was equal to their efforts. PORTER earned a corner with some great work in the 72nd minute and following MULVEY’S far post ball STONE was left unmarked to knock home 3-0

With next weeks game in mind changes were made and following one of these substitutes, FARNON should have done better when again left unmarked at the far post from a corner. To their credit, Cranborne had their best chance at the death when their forward was clean through, however his effort went wide.

GILES & SEAN were delighted with the manner of the victory played against the leagues bottom side, another clean sheet to the total and things are set up well for next weeks match with second place Sherborne where a victory is a must. Training will be sharp & intense this week and the correct preparations will be in place for next weeks game, all in all a professional result was achieved today – keep it up.
