County Reserve League Despite the conditions and the stop start nature of the referee, so making the game scrappy, what good football was played came from Borough, who deservedly ran our easy four nil winners, Cranborne struggled to get a foothold in midfield and were eventually out played in all areas, only some last gasp defending saved them from a bigger defeat. This win saw Borough go to the top of the Reserve table. Giles & Sean changed the formation for this game to 3-5-2 to give the side a more attacking emphasis against the bottom placed club and borough started the quicker and took the game to Cranborne, early efforts from MULVEY & PORTER went close, on 10 minutes WATSON shot over after PORTER won a free kick, STRONG went close with a header on 16 minutes following a corner. The referee by this time was not letting play flow and continued to pull play back for infringements instead of allowing advantage, this made the game very disjointed for both sides as frustrations rose, WATSON received a yellow card on 17 minutes for Delaying the re-start from a free kick, However WATSON exacted revenge by firing home from a free kick in the 22nd minute following another foul by the Cranborne defence 1-0 WATSON came close again from another free kick in the 28th minute, this time the Cranborne keeper superbly tipped over. Further chance fell to MULVEY & PORTER as Borough threatened regularly, Cranborne offered little, however KNIGHT had to be alert to clear the danger by bravely diving at the feet of the advancing forward. HOLBERT went close in the 37th minute following a flowing Borough move, the pressure eventually paid of when RUDD in the 40th minute latched onto a knock down to rifle the ball home 2-0. HALF TIME POOLE BOROUGH RES 2, CRANBORNE RES 0. Borough were sent out in the second half with instructions to kill the game off and within a minute they did exactly that when PORTER, after receiving a great ball from STRONG, beat the defender and shot across the keeper and into the net, a good finish, 3-0 This goal knocked what stuffing Cranborne had left, as Borough totally dominated the second half, PORTER earned himself a yellow card in the 53rd minute when mis-timing a challenge on the wet surface. Following further missed chances for PORTER, MULVEY, RUDD & TOWNSEND, the lead was increased in the 79th minute when MULVEY cut in and powerfully shot home past the stranded keeper 4-0. There was still time for TOWNSEND & HEBDON to miss chances after further good Borough play as the game neared the end. Giles & Sean were both pleased with the result, but more so for the application shown by the whole side to play passing football in the formation asked of them, and in the trying conditions with an over officious official, discipline remains high and that is very pleasing, the clean sheet was a further bonus and the confidence gained over the last 2 games will stand the team in good stead for the forthcoming matches against sides at the top of the table. |
