Dorset Senior Trophy - Quarter Final
Saturday 13th December 2008

Borough’s cup adventures was finally over for this season as they were decidedly second best today and can have no complaints at losing to a very physical and well organised Parley side who on the evidence shown would cause many sides problems in the D.P.L.

Confidence was high going into the game following last weeks excellent league win, however it soon became clear that Borough would need to play well above themselves as Parley went straight onto the attack and continually pushed forward, with Knight saving well in the 4th minute following a fierce shot.

Borough were not only conceding possession but silly free kicks, but again the defence held firm in the face of constant attacks. When Borough did get the ball they were closed down very quickly meaning they were unable to start any of their own play, however on 20 minutes following a long ball by Hebdon, Stone saw his chance go wide.

On 22 minutes Parley hit the post with the rebound being cleared, while Knight again pulled off a couple of decent blocks in the 34th & 37th minutes. Borough’s best opportunity of the half fell to Mulvey, however poor control saw him lose the chance when well placed. Parley finished the half strongly and further efforts went close.

HALF TIME POOLE BOROUGH RES 3, PARLEY SPORTS 0.

The second half started brightly for Borough as Gallagher went close in the 47th minute, but back came Parley and a 30 yarder went close. The visitors then forced a series of corners that Borough coped with well, but as the ball was being cleared the home side found it was coming straight back. Knight had to be quickly out to block following a sliced clearance from Hebdon in the 55th minute and in the 61st minute Knight tipped away another shot following another flowing piece of Parley play.

Parley’s pressure eventually told in the 64th minute when a quality through ball caught the Borough defence flat footed and the Parley forward slotted home 0-1 Borough tried to muster a response but were undone moments later when a Parley player beat 3 challenges before crossing into the box to a colleague to slam home 0-2

This second goal knocked the stuffing out of Borough as they appeared to not be up for the fight, Parley continued to pour forward and only last ditch defending and good Knight saves prevented the score line from increasing, when Borough decided to give it a go it was too late, but efforts from Stone & De Benedictus went close, however it was no surprise when Borough conceded a third following a quick counter attack with minutes to go 0-3

Although disappointed with losing and for the fact that Borough appeared to throw in the towel before their late rally, Giles was philosophical, he paid tribute to Parley and challenged his players to be more confident & stronger on the ball, after all, we are a good reserve side but came up short against a very good senior side. He wished Parley all the best for the remainder of the competition and has asked for a vastly improved performance here next week against Shaftesbury – remember we owe them !!!!
