County Reserve League Borough for the second week running were involved in a titanic battle, this time against the best side they have faced this season, it was clearly evident why these two sides were unbeaten so far this season and after this game both sides remain so, a share of the spoils was a fair result. Borough settled well and a MULVEY free kick in the 7th minute tested the Sherborne keeper. Sherborne were playing some good football and went close in the 15th minute, however HEBDON was on hand to clear, and so the pattern was set for the game with both sides playing some great football, attack was followed by counter attack as both sides searched for a goal, chances came and went for MULVEY, WATSON & PORTER, whilst the Borough defence held firm, KNIGHTS had to be quick to save at the feet of a Sherborne forward in the 37th minute. Borough were at this stage more than matching their opponents and the teams battling qualities were ably demonstrated by RUDD & WATSON who both covered well in the face of Sherborne attacks, whilst turning them around and launching Borough forward. HALF TIME POOLE BOROUGH RES 0, SHERBORNE TOWN RES 0. The opening minutes of the second half belonged to Sherborne who stepped up their efforts from the off, KNIGHTS saved well in the 47th minute, however despite Sherborne playing some nice football the Borough defence stood firm with FORSTER winning everything. Borough soon responded as they created a series of chances, again, however these were squandered by DE BEN, PORTER & MULVEY. Back came Sherborne and in the 75th minute they should of taken the lead when their forward found himself clean through, however he was thwarted by a top class save from KNIGHTS. Boroughs response was to throw on FARROW, and this substitution nearly worked when with his first touch he hit the bar from a tight angle, so near!! PORTER in the 82nd minute had a half chance but saw his effort go wide, Borough finished the game the stronger side but could not find that elusive goal. Giles & Sean again were delighted with the effort shown and were also pleased another clean sheet was kept, their 5th in 8 games. Both commented that Sherborne were a well organised team who also liked to play football, they were matched for the majority of the game and the outcome of the return fixture in a few weeks would be very important, still we have nothing to fear and the players need to take all the positives gained from this game out of it and continue to improve as a team. |
