Borough worked hard in very trying conditions, however two lapses of concentration saw them concede 2 goals in a game for the first time this season.

Played with the rain relentlessly falling making conditions a lottery Borough settled to the task quicker and after only 2 minutes they should of taken the lead, however PORTER blasted over. The same player also drew a good save from the keeper in the 7th minute, his shot fell to DE BEN whose follow up shot was also blocked by the home keeper. Back came Shaftesbury and they were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute when HEBDON was adjudged to of brought down their player, up stepped the forward 1-0.

As the weather drew increasingly worse, Borough struggled to make their passes count and gain any momentum, however with the half drawing to a soggy end, Borough fashioned their best piece of play of the half when a flowing move involving, HOPKINS, RUDD & DE BEN saw the latter play in PORTER who rounded the keeper and slot the ball home 1-1

HALF TIME SHAFTESBURY RES 1, POOLE BOROUGH RES 1.

Borough raised their tempo after the break and with their ears still ringing from the half time team talk, they took the game to Shaftesbury and controlled vast periods of the half, numerous chances were created without finding the net. Shaftesbury seemed content to sit back and desperately defend their goal without venturing forward to often. MULVEY shot over in the 50th minute, PORTER also shot over in the 54th minute and the same player was thwarted in the 61st minute, when following great play from RUDD & MULVEY, his effort was blocked by the covering defender.

Borough made changes and opted for a 4-3-3 formation in search of a winner, MADGEWICK made an instant impact when his superb work ended with his cross finding DE BEN at the far post, his effort was superbly tipped over by the home keeper, was it going to be one of those days !!!!!

On 72 minutes, MULVEY’S effort was superbly blocked by the keeper, moments later and Shaftesbury carved out their first chance of the half, however KNIGHTS saved well with his legs. This effort should have kept the Borough defence on their toes however following another missed chance by RUDD Shaftesbury launched a long ball that caught the Borough defence out in the 87th minute, the Shaftesbury forward found himself clean through and he duly dispatched his shot 2-1.

Back came Borough who could see their unbeaten record disappear before their eyes, good play into the box saw the ball at PORTERS feet, the keeper challenged him and over went Tim - penalty to Borough and there were no complaints as MULVEY slammed home the spot kick for the equaliser 2-2. Borough went in search of a winner and it nearly came when a defensive mix up saw the Shaftesbury keeper drop onto a deflected ball right on his goal line.

Giles was philosophical at the end, although delighted with the effort shown in atrocious conditions this was 2 points dropped based on the dominance shown in the second half, however to concede that second goal with minutes to go and to come back with the grit and determination evident he was happy to get the point. Giles stressed that the defence has to remain 110% concentrated on their job in hand for the full 90 minutes as 2 sloppy moments cost the side goals.
