Dorset County Reserve League
Saturday 20th December 2008

Borough secured their 8th League win of a season with a dis-jointed performance against a game Shaftesbury side.

A fast start was asked for and Mulvey’s 1st minute shot was well tipped over by the visiting keeper, from the resulting corner GALLAGHER rose to nod home 1-0.

For the next 15 minutes Borough forced 6 corners and had numerous other chances from STONE, MULVEY & GALLAGHER all to no avail. Shaftesbury then appeared to settle and forced a couple of corners themselves both well dealt with by Borough.

Too many times passes were going astray and the final ball was not good enough, KNIGHT has to be alert to well save in the 35th minute, once again he was called upon in the 42nd minute when the Borough defence were caught in possession, this should have been taken as a warning as Shaftesbury grew in confidence as Borough lacked their normal cohesion.

HALF TIME POOLE BOROUGH RES 1, SHAFTESBURY RES 0.

Following a frank half time discussion, Borough went out and immediately put themselves under pressure by losing the ball whilst in attack, a quick flowing move saw a cross bound ball slice into the net for a surprise equaliser 1-1.

Moments later and another cross shot nearly caught Borough out. This effort finally seemed to wake Borough up as they launched a response, chances fell to WATSON, MULVEY & GALLAGHER whose efforts were well saved by the visiting keeper. Further changes were made from the bench as Borough looked for a winner and in the 75th minute this paid off as PORTER celebrating his 21st Birthday superbly controlled Mulvey’s great ball before slotting home over the advancing keeper, a great finish even if the celebration left a lot to be desired, in fact it was pants !!!!! 2-1.

Further chances came and went as the game drew to its close. Giles was delighted to get another 3 points although disappointed in the entire performance, however, he paid tribute to his side for winning ugly and grinding out a win.
