Borough secured a well deserved win against a game Highcliffe side who at one stage came from 2 down to pressurise Borough in the first half. To the home sides credit, they did not dissolve and deservedly controlled the remainder of the game.

The game started at a high tempo but it was the visitors who tested the goal first when on 10 minute SHEAR made a fine save. This was the kick up the backside that Borough needed as SQUIRE received the ball centrally and rounded the keeper to slot home a good finish. 1-0

Borough turned up the pressure as WATSON'S effort in the 17th minute was well saved, Borough continued to press and on 21 minutes PORTER was fouled in the box >>>>>>> penalty to Borough, up stepped WATSON to score 2-0

Highcliffe responded well and only 4 minutes later in the 25th minute they reduced the arrears when their forward slotted home 2-1

Back came Borough who forced a series of corners all of which came to nothing unlike a Highcliffe corner in the 44th minute that resulted in MURPHY scoring an own goal 2-2

Borough could have accepted the score and headed in for half time, however they launched a direct move from the re start which saw an excellent move between WATSON & MOORE with the latter’s cross volleyed home by SQUIRE 3-2

HALF-TIME 3-2

The second half saw Borough remain in the ascendancy with GUNN going close in the 48th minute, Borough were given a let off in the 66th minute when Highcliffe hit the post following a good move.

Chances were being created and not taken as PORTER & SQUIRE went close, Highcliffe continued to press as the half wore on and in the final minute they had a corner in which they sent all 10 outfield players up for leaving PORTER alone in the centre circle, SHEAR collected the corner and quickly released PORTER who drew the keeper and slotted home to secure the 3 points. 4-2

Giles was understandably pleased with the victory and in the manner it was achieved with after being pegged back by a plucky Highcliffe side, Borough showed a collective team desire to get a positive result. The side is still far from where Giles & Sean want them to be and there is still a lot of hard work ahead, it is up to all the players to continue working hard at training and on a Saturday, there are no easy wins !!!!!
