League Division 1 Borough put in arguably their worst first half performance for many a season when they failed in effect to turn up at the Broadway, as they failed to match their opponents who from the start were up for it. Borough did not compete across the pitch and then resorted to petty arguing amongst themselves as frustration boiled over. Borough received a set back in the warm up when regular keeper SHEAR dropped to the bench due to a finger injury. STANNARD stepped into the breach and probably wished he hadnt with what unfolded in front of him. That said Borough did start well and in the 3rd minute PORTER'S shot cannoned back of the post. However moments later Borough were behind when a weak back pass was capitalised upon and the resulting shot trickled towards the goal line, before it was cleared but the referee gave the goal without consulting the linesman! 1-0. Clearly this set back rattled Borough as time after time their passing and movement were well short of the mark, in the 23rd minute Electric increased their lead from a corner when their forward headed home un challenged 2-0. Borough had to make a further change as HEBDON was carried off with an injury that resulted in a trip to A&E. If things were bleak, they got worse in the 32nd minute when another free kick was conceded, up stepped the Electric forward to shoot over the wall and in a great finish 3-0 HALF-TIME BEFC 3-0 PBFC Borough were again challenged not to lose the second half, and to their credit they did that, again !!!! However the half was dis-jointed with few chances falling to both sides. A clearly frustrated Giles was disappointed in the manner in which the side played the first half, he has further challenged his players to stand up and be counted next week in the Cup match against Poundbury. |
