Bournemouth
League Division 1 Borough again dominated a match for long periods, they created numerous chances that were not converted and were ultimately undone by 2 defensive lapses that allowed Fordingbridge to snatch a dramatic last minute equaliser. Played on a glorious day on a bumpy narrow pitch Borough started well with PORTER going close in the 4th minute, while Mcnally saw a header go wide following a free kick in the 7th minute. Moments later and PORTERS effort saw his shot saved for a corner, that corner was then cleared of the line as the Fordingbridge goal led a charmed life. However as the half wore on Fordingbridge certainly grew into the game as Boroughs passing game came up short. On 19 minutes they had the ball in the net following a good move only to see the effort correctly chalked off for hand ball, this should have acted as an alarm call for Borough, however moments later following a Borough corner, Fordingbridge broke quickly, and their forward evaded the Borough defence to slot home. 0-1 Borough upped the anti but still could not find a way through, HAMPTON-BROWN hit the post in the 29th minute, TOWNEND went close in the 33rd and PORTER was again thwarted by the home keeper in the 41st minute. HALF-TIME 1-0 Borough knew they needed to up their efforts in the second half as they sought to get back in the game, MOORE went close in the 47th minute, SQUIRE hit the post in the 56th minute as many Borough followers began to wonder if it was to be their day !!! On 62 minutes PORTER headed over when well placed following a good DE BEN cross, but PORTER was finally to get on the score sheet when he controlled a ball and lifted over the advancing keeper 1-1 The relief throughout the Borough side was clearly evident as they upped the pace and forced Fordingbridge to retreat more and more. SQUIRE again went close on 74 minutes when another shot was well saved by the keeper, while GUNN saw an effort go wide in the 75th minute. On 79 minutes Borough finally got their noses in front when a flowing move between MOORE & PORTER saw the ball laid back to HEBDON whose shot found the bottom corner of the net 1-2. Borough continued to press but were continually thwarted by the home keeper, despite dominating the half for almost the whole 45 minutes, Borough conceded a silly free kick on 88 minutes just outside the area, SHEAR pulled off a flying finger tip save to tip the ball over for a corner, however the resulting corner was not cleared correctly and after a spot of pin ball, the ball ended up in the net to Boroughs despair 2-2 Giles & Sean were understandably shell shocked by conceding late on and again questioned some of their players desire and attitudes shown on the day, despite dominating the game for long periods, Borough were guilty of 2 pieces of sloppy defending and a lack of positivity in front of goal. That said the side is still creating lots of chances and the football shown in the second half was excellent, on another day the score would have seen Borough well ahead, alas it did not happen !!!! Giles has challenged his players to go and analyse their own individual performances and come back, if selected, next week and show that they do have the heart and desire to put in a fully consistent performance for the whole 90 minutes and to knuckle down to the job at hand, if they are not prepared to do that then Giles & Sean WILL make changes and search for new players to bolster/enhance the squad !!!!! And any player not willing to accept the challenge will be free to find another team !!!!! |
