League Division 1 Again Borough got of to a good start and forced a series of early corners, all defended well by St Marys, who battled hard all day but ultimately came up short in the attacking department. SQUIRE shot wide in the 5th minute when well placed, and HEBDON shot over in the 8th minute when a loose ball found him. SHEAR was called upon in the 18th minute when he smartly got down to a header from a St Marys corner. In he 26th minute, Borough deservedly took the lead when PORTER slotted home following a good move 0-1. Borough continued to press and on 40 minutes they should of increased the lead when SQUIRE cut the ball back only for a last gasp defender knocking it out for a corner, from which, HEBDON headed wide when well placed. HALF-TIME SMFC 0-1 PBFC Unlike previous weeks, Borough started the second half well with a determination to remain positive and drive forward, SQUIRE had chance in the 56th and 58th minutes, while HOLBERT went close in the 65th minute from a free kick. On 67 minutes PORTER was just adjudged off side when he went clean through a close call !!!! However 1 minute later and SQUIRE deservedly increased the lead when he received the ball, cut in and smashed the ball home 0-2. It was no more than he deserved for a good all round performance on the day. To St Marys credit they pressed forward and on 75 minutes a ball into the box was hand balled by SMALLING Penalty to St Marys, up stepped their forward to knock home 1-2. If this set back was to knock Boroughs confidence, it didnt as SQUIRE again went close in the 79th minute when his shot crashed back of the bar, HOLBERT again shot over in the 83rd minute following good play between the Borough midfield. As the game drew to a close, PORTER had another chance go wide. Giles was very pleased with the attitude and desire shown by all involved from minute 1 to the end, on the pitch it was a much better performance, with Borough dictating to the opposition whilst playing good football. Now the trick is to take this new found belief into the next series of games which are against sides around the top of the table, however 3 well deserved points, well done to all. |
